Case Study 1: Tokushima Tsuda Biomass Power Plant

Boiler building.jpg

Issue Background

Biomass power plants, which have been attracting attention in recent years from the perspective of carbon neutrality, have frequently experienced fires caused by heat generation and heat accumulation in pipes, and accidents caused by pipe ruptures triggered by corrosion and wear. Daily inspections and maintenance are essential to prevent these fires and accidents, but the challenge is that it is difficult to ensure the safety of workers at high altitudes and in high-temperature environments.

To solve these problems, it is necessary to create an environment where the condition inside the pipes can be grasped and recorded remotely "anytime, anywhere." The introduction of the "Pipe Thinning Monitoring System" developed by CAST makes it possible to reduce the burden of inspection work in biomass power plants.

Overview

Implementation period: 3 months

Implementation details: Installing sensors in high-temperature, high-altitude locations where inspection is difficult

Real-time thickness measurement results twice a day

Creating an environment where information can be checked online

Location:

① Boiler feedwater piping that is approximately 175℃ hot during operation ② Boiler fuel system chute where internal wear and tear is expected

■ Sensor installation location

■ Demonstration Effects

01

Successful long-term operation of sensors in high-temperature areas

The first successful installation and monitoring of CAST sensors in high-temperature areas at a biomass power plant

02

Measurement results for chute structure (sensor installation using special jig)

Stable fixation and measurement of not only pipes but also surface structure objects

The structure was realized and successfully monitored.

03

Realizing a cloud-based real-time monitoring environment

We have succeeded in transmitting data via the internet and monitoring wall thinning on a cloud basis.
